Leicester Based Printer’s new Data Centre

Case Study: Leicester Based Printer’s new Data Centre

When the Leicester based printer realised that their existing Server Room needed too many modifications to be viable, they took the decision to build a completely new Data Centre to migrate into, next to the original Server Room. An industry recognised DC build specialist was engaged to build a completely new room from scratch, and they selected Sovereign Extinguishing to fit the Gas Fire Suppression system.

3M™ Novec™ 1230 Fire Protection Fluid was selected as the extinguishant, due to its compactness in a reasonably small space, and Sovereign designed, installed and commissioned a complete system for the room around the cylinder containing the 3M™ Novec™ 1230 Fire Protection Fluid, which had to include extra Smoke Detection for the Aisle Separation that was installed as part of the Data Centre build. The system was designed and installed to comply with all current regulations and manufacturer guidelines.

As a testament to the Data Centre room builder, the room passed the Room Integrity Test that Sovereign performed with flying colours – proving it was well sealed, with a Hold Time well in excess of that required. To protect against discharge pressure spikes causing any damage to the room on discharge of the 3M™ Novec™ 1230 Fire Protection Fluid, a Pressure Relief Damper was also supplied and installed.

The system was installed and commissioned around the Coronavirus lockdown and was bought in exactly on budget and on the program specified by our client.

The system is now fully commissioned and in active service – protecting the customers data, property and perhaps, more importantly, ensuring their business’ continuity.
